Wauregan, CT

Wauregan, CT is a section of Plainfield CT.  It is also a location of three major customers on the line, American Standard, who built a brand new plant there in 1957/1958, a large gravel pit and Wauregan Grain.  The gravel pit has been replaced by a company that make cast concrete pipe.  The American Standard building is now a large warehouse for a few companies including Staples, but with not rail service.  At least the spur is still in place for potential future use.  Wauregan Grain is still in business and has been expanding as other regional dealers close.  Below are photos I took on September 7, 2019.

Fun Weekend

This past week end was was the annual NHRHTA Reunion, which also means an operation session on Chris Adams' Valley Railroad.  It is always a great time to visit with many people at reunion and to check out the full size trains at the Valley Railroad. I also to the opportunity of traveling down and back to the reunion to photograph Putnam and Plainfield CT. Chris posted photos of the ops session on his blog, which is listed to the right on my blog.

I rode the caboose with Chris down the Valley to the north end of the Old Saybrook Wye

Here is the south end of the line.  The neat part is I operated a local that traveled this
line on Chris's layout the night before.

23 Feet

I have gotten 23 feet of wall insulated, framed, wired, plumbed and dry walled.  Not too bad for a week while going to work and other life stuff to do.  I do still need to tape and mud the wall, but I can do that after work this week.  I am not sure if I can pull it off, but I hope to get a coat of paint on it before I head to Connecticut for the New Haven Railroad Historical and Technical Association Reunion at the the Essex Steam Railroad.  After that is a operation session on Chris Adams' Valley Railroad.   I am sure to come back energized to finish the room and get building the layout!

A nice section of wall.  I moved the pipe for the sump pump so is goes up
through the wall instead of in the room like it use to be positioned.

Making Progress

I was able to frame and put up drywall for the first 8 feet of my wall.  The wall is about 23 feet long so am one third of the way.  The next few feet are a bit trickier, I have to reroute the plumbing for my sump pump, plus move all the stuff that is jammed into that section of the basement.  Once I get the walls done, I will build sectional selves that will hold the layout pus all my stuff to open up the room. I need it to be a multi-purpose room for band practices as well as layout use as both my children are musicians.

Starting to Finish the Walls

I have decided it was time to finish the balance of the basement.  This will allow me to make it warmer and drier in the upcoming fall and winter.   There is also a break in the crazy hot and humid weather in the Northeast so doing this work is much more comfortable.  So far I have cleaned out the area I need to get to and have glued foam insulation.  I will be framing and hanging drywall about 12 feet tonight.  that will be about half the wall, I then can move stuff around and do the balance of the wall.  I will build selves that will hold the lay out and store all of the stuff I am currently moving around.
Here is the beginning, about 14 feet of foam.
